Leo Harold Colburn, Jr.


Leo Harold Colburn, Jr., age 79, of Middleville, passed away on Oct. 5, 2020. Leo was born on Nov. 1, 1940 in Hastings to Leo and Lorella (Sneden) Colburn, Sr. Leo was an iron worker for most of his life working on many interesting jobs, in Florida at the Epcot Center at Disney World, the Gurnee Mills Mall in Illinois, the Steelcase plant on M-37, Buildings at UpJohn’s in Kalamazoo, some of the tall buildings in downtown Grand Rapids and many more. He had a small sawmill, did custom sawing and sawed all the lumber for the house he built. Leo loved working with wood and could build almost anything. In the winter you could find him in his wood shop turning wood bowls on his lathe or carving. He was a very talented guy. He anxiously waited for spring each year to get on his motorcycle. He took some good trips with his friend, Jim. Leo is survived by his wife, Pat (Porritt) Colburn; son, Rick (Tina) Colburn; daughter, Deborah (Dale) Evans; stepson, Phillip Hoffman; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and brothers, Ed (Sara) Colburn and Ken (Bonnie) Colburn. Per Leo’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be planned for a later date.
